TV: The Flash (1990) s1e11: Beat the Clock

Rating: 10/10

A jazz musician on death row is set to be executed in less than 24 hours. But then Barry is given a lead which could be the break he needs to set an innocent man free.

Decent episode that felt noir with tons of jazz music to boot. I used to kind of hate jazz but things like Cowboy Bebop and La La Land have really turned my head around about that. Also noir is also always a plus for me, personally, but this is less like the films of old but rather the types of films you’d see coming out of the 70s. Slower paced but still with a lot of intense action, like the film Dirty Harry, or the like.

Also, Julio gets a much bigger role in this episode than normal. Part of me thinks Barry should just reveal to him he’s the Flash and he can join the STAR Labs crew with Christina. I know it probably isn’t going to happen with this show being much more episodic than the newer parts of Arrowverse. Oh, and I really like it when they do episodes in different styles and genres. The newer shows could learn from this.

SCORING:

+10: very good episode, as long as you like jazz, noir, and slow-paced action movies
