We flashback to Felicity’s past where she was a Hacktivist and once programmed a virus so powerful it landed her college boyfriend in prison. When that same virus comes back to shutdown Starling City, Felicity and Arrow must race to find out who caused this and get the city back online.
This combines character drama and mystery well with things relating by the end like I always want them to. I like the focus on Felicity and showing some of her backstory so she’s not so much of just “the chick at the computer” every episode. Giving us more into her, or any other side characters, backstory I think works for the show and let’s people see why she does the things she does, if only partly.
What doesn’t quite work is the filler in the middle of the episode. It decides to focus on how Felicity’s and Oliver’s families are, well, basically just being families when they have problems. It’s not so bad, I guess, but it also doesn’t do anything for the show that isn’t totally cliche of any storyline of that nature.
+9: Good episode with a good mystery
-1: family issues shouldn’t eat up much time in a superhero show
