Missing Link (2019)

Rating: 6.5/10

Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman) receives a mysterious letter that leads him across the seas and into America. After finding the Missing Link (Zach Galifianakis), he’s on a mission to return him to his own kind among the Yeti in the mythical land of Shangri La.

I enjoyed this film, it was a good take on the buddy film with an adventure plotline that works well with the silly characters. The animation/claymation was top notch, exactly what you’d expect from the same company that brought you Paranorman.

My biggest complaint is that the comedy doesn’t really fly. In fact, I’ll just say that this is not a comedy film. There are a few moments that made me laugh but nothing that stands out to me as utterly hilarious. This is basically something ruined by the previews too I think, which showed this to be a funny film, but really what they do is just show us ALL the jokes in the film and are essentially tricking us to seeing what we believe is a comedy when really it’s a lighthearted adventure flick. This isn’t saying that one is worse than the other, but you shouldn’t show something to be something it’s not. This is, essentially, the definition of False Advertising.

SCORING:

+7: Good claymated adventure movie

+1.5: Good voice acting and animation

-2: Movie is ruined by its trailers
