Wonder Woman s1e1: Wonder Woman Meets Baron Von Gunther

Air Date: April 21, 1976

Rating: 2.75/10

Steve is being framed by nazis and Wonder Woman discovers a trail that leads her right to Baron von Gunther.

Okay, I thought this was a fine episode, but I feel that it was a bit simplistic. Usually a show has a side plot or two to put in place of what, as shown here, are typically boring scenes of watching people getting from one point to another, both literally and figuratively.

Also, it’s called Wonder Woman, I expect action and adventure and instead it feels more like a detective show set in WWII and Diana Prince secretly being Wonder Woman makes almost no difference whatsoever. What is with DC characters and solving mysteries lately?

As a minor complaint, there’s one scene that the sound quality is so bad it’s very distracting. They’re in a small room and everything everyone says is very echoey. And there’s a scene in this same room later without the echo. I’m not sure what went wrong but it feels like they should have overdubbed it later, or maybe it was an effect they added later? If they explained this in the scene, I was too distracted by the echo to hear it.

Also, everything kind of goes wrong for Wonder Woman at the end, so much so that people we’ve barely seen so far have to Deus Ex Machina part of the ending.

There is some decent action at the end though, but nothing until then.

SCORING:

+4: Mostly boring and strange, but gets better

-1: Just really seems like they aren’t using this character to her full potential

-0.25: A short scene with bad sound

+1: Good action at the end

-1: Deus Ex Machina
