Air Date: November 12, 2019
A bounty-hunting Mandalorian is sent across the galaxy on a secret task. Along the way he must, among other things, learn to ride an alien creature and shoot his way through a large group of mercenaries in order to get his goal.
This is both similar to the rest of Star Wars while doing something all it’s own. It’s a breath of fresh air for something that’s essentially just been picking at crumbs looking for some way to give this old property a new face. I think this is a step in the right direction for Star Wars as a whole and hopefully Disney will learn that it’s okay to do something new with the universe.
I especially enjoy the Western feel of it. This episode especially actually made me think more of Firefly than Star Wars actually with just how much both shows feel like gunslingers from the wild west, only moving from planet to planet instead of from town to town. Even the scene where the Mandalorian is learning to ride feels like something straight out of a spaghetti western.
I really like the Mandalorian as a character as well. I thought at first he was basically going to be a stand in for Boba Fett, or the silent-but-deadly type, more or less. At first, he essentially was that, but was the episode moved forward we see more and more of his personality come out and he becomes almost chatty by the end. I like this as, though Boba Fett was cool, we don’t really get to learn much about him or his alien race.
+10: I’m very excited for this series, a very good pilot, to say the least
